HERE ARE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR FLAPPERS

Chicago, May 10, 1922—Ten commandments for flappers, announced by Rev. Alice Phillips Aldrich, superintendent of Illinois Vigilance Association’s welfare work, follow:

  1. Don’t gamble with virtue as the stake.
  2. Don’t accept a lift from smooth strangers in shiny limousines.
  3. Don’t accompany a man into a back room of a saloon or gilded cafe.
  4. Don’t drink intoxicating liquor with a man.
  5. Don’t smoke cigarettes.
  6. Don’t allow yourself to be “picked up.”
  7. Beware of the taxicab.
  8. Refrain from extreme modes of dancing.
  9. Dress simple and modestly.
  10. Don’t do anything you know is risky.
