HERE ARE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR FLAPPERS
Chicago, May 10, 1922—Ten commandments for flappers, announced by Rev. Alice Phillips Aldrich, superintendent of Illinois Vigilance Association’s welfare work, follow:
- Don’t gamble with virtue as the stake.
- Don’t accept a lift from smooth strangers in shiny limousines.
- Don’t accompany a man into a back room of a saloon or gilded cafe.
- Don’t drink intoxicating liquor with a man.
- Don’t smoke cigarettes.
- Don’t allow yourself to be “picked up.”
- Beware of the taxicab.
- Refrain from extreme modes of dancing.
- Dress simple and modestly.
- Don’t do anything you know is risky.
